View of Venice, Italy

Travel and transportation

The easiest way to reach Venice is by air. Direct flights link Venice to major European cities and there are a few direct intercontinental flights. Venice's Marco Polo Airport is situated 10 km north of the city.

The most spectacular entry from the airport into the Lido and Venice is by boat.

The following services are available:

  • Public watertaxi
A private watertaxi service which uses public transport's stops; therefore it offers less expensive prices than private watertaxis. The service includes the Alilaguna Red and the Alilaguna Blue Line. Both lines leave each hour; travelling time to the Lido is 55', to S. Marco Square 1.10'. The ticket price varies from a minimum of 5 euro to a maximum of approx. 15 euro, depending on destination (price level autumn 2006). For detailed information, timetable and prices, visit the Alilaguna website: http://www.alilaguna.it/
  • Private watertaxi
This is the fastest means to reach the Lido and Venice (approx. 30'), but also the most expensive.
  • Car taxi
It takes 15 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma; price is approx. 30 euro. From there you must continue by waterbus or -taxi.
  • Bus ATVO
A direct connection from the airport to the Piazzale Roma, which takes approx. 20 minutes. From there, continue by waterbus or -taxi. Tickets are quite cheap. For details visit the ATVO website: http://www.atvo.it/

For assistance please apply at the EBC welcome desk at Marco Polo airport.

If you travel to Treviso Airport, a small airport north of Venice serviced by charter flights, visit http://www.atvo.it/ for details on transportation by bus to Venice.

 Passport and Visa requirements
EU residents and visitors from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand do not need visas for stays of up to three months. However, you must be in possession of a valid passport or another travel document. It is advisable for all visitors to check their requirements before travelling.
